Dr. Christman received her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University and her Ph.D. from the UC San Francisco and Berkeley Joint Bioengineering Graduate Group. She was NIH postdoctoral fellow at UCLA prior to joining UC San Diego. She is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, the Biomedical Engineering Society, and the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society, and has received several awards including the NIH Director’s New Innovator and Transformative Research Awards, the TERMIS Young Investigator and Senior Scientist Awards, the Society for Biomaterials Clemson Award for Applied Research, and the AIMBE Professional Impact Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Dr. Christman is also a Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors and an entrepreneur, having co-founded Ventrix Bio, Inc. and Karios Technologies, Inc.
